Back in 2017 and 2018, we had the honor of being the featured chimney and fireplace company on HGTV’s hit show, ‘Property Brothers’. We get a lot of questions about what it was like, so we thought we’d answer some of them right here. Enjoy!

How did the opportunity come about?

‘Property Brothers’ decided to film in Nashville for a couple of seasons, and they knew they’d need a company they could trust to handle all of the fireplaces for those seasons. They started their search by asking contractors who were going to be working on the homes who they would recommend for fireplaces. Our name came up several times. They, of course, also did a search online and found our reviews and our A+ rating with the BBB. So, they reached out to us and asked if we would like to partner with them during the show. Of course, we said ‘Yes!’

When they asked how many of the 11 fireplaces we’d be willing to do, we told them all of them. We ended up doing 16 chimneys/fireplaces over the course of the 2017 and 2018 seasons. We put in all types of fireplaces, some chimneys we just repaired, others we revamped with decorative gas fireplaces.

What was the most surprising thing about your experience working with ‘Property Brothers’?

Ashbusters work truck in a drivewayWe’ve seen hundreds of thousands of chimneys, so there’s really nothing new or surprising for us. The challenging or surprising part of the experience had more to do with working on TV. You have to work around filming and the stars’ schedules, and many times, you have to work in a way that can be filmed. So you have to slow down, do something for the camera, wait for the host to do something, or sometimes even wait for the host to arrive. Doing TV work is actually a lot more difficult than our everyday jobs, but it’s very rewarding.

Another thing that was a bit surprising was how much Jonathan (one of the Property Brothers) knows about construction. We worked with him mainly and he’s not just an actor, he’s legitimate. He knew fireplaces really well, and he knew the codes. He was a good person to work with, and he was really funny. All of the people working with ‘Property Brothers’ are great.

Can we see your technicians on every episode of ‘Property Brothers’ in 2017 and 2018?

The ‘Property Brothers’ show is more about the home as a whole than it is about the fireplace, so they didn’t necessarily highlight the technicians doing the work on every episode. You might watch an episode and not see us working every time. But we did every fireplace and chimney service for the Nashville episodes and just know that they trusted us with such important work is all the credit we need!
