Chimney fires are almost always avoidable with a fireplace inspection so the purpose of these inspections is to inform the homeowner of any current or potential problems that could turn into expensive repairs. Why Have Your Fireplace Inspected?
Inspections should be conducted annually, according to the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) and the National Fire Protection Association, so that future problems can be prevented.
- Problems that can arise include creosote and other buildup. These blockages can cause smoke to flow back into the home and even cause chimney fires.
- Chimney fires usually cause problematic damages to the fireplace system which leads to costly repairs
- There are three levels of inspections, ranging from a quick look for problems, to video inspections and if necessary, possible destruction of portions of the chimney. Usually a Level 1 or 2 inspection will be adequate unless there are indications of hazards in concealed areas of the system.
