If you have an older masonry chimney, you most likely have a clay tile liner. Although this type of chimney liner is built to last for years, the tiles can suffer from cracking, chipping, and other kinds of spalling and erosion damage over time. Years ago, repairing a clay tile liner was quite expensive as it required taking the chimney apart to get to the damaged tiles. Fortunately, a new product was developed in the 1980’s that revolutionized relining masonry chimneys: HeatShield. This product allows chimney professionals to repair and restore clay tile liners without costing you a lot of money. The chimney technicians at Ashbusters have been trained and certified to use HeatShield on the chimneys in the Nashville area. We would like to tell you more about how we can repair cracked clay tiles. We can even install a new chimney liner with this amazing product.

How can HeatShield restore my masonry chimney?

Your chimney liner is an essential component of your chimney and fireplace system. It protects the combustible parts of your home from heat transfer as well as the masonry materials of the chimney structure. When the clay tiles of the liner are cracked and chipped, it can affect the safety of your chimney. HeatShield is a flue sealant that is a combination of ceramic and refractory coatings that can withstand moisture, corrosive combustion gases, and extremely high temperatures. Ashbusters can apply HeatShield to the inside of your chimney and restore the integrity and safety of your flue. We can inspect your chimney and determine which of the three HeatShield repair methods is right for your flue.

What are the three HeatShield repair methods?

All three of the repair methods involve applying the HeatShield cerfractory sealant with a customized foam insert. The method that your chimney needs depends on how damaged the clay tile liner is.

  • If your flue only has damaged mortar joints, Ashbusters will use the Joint Repair System to fill in the gaps inside the flue.
  • When your flue has both damaged mortar joints and chipped and cracked clay tiles, we can repair the liner with the Resurfacing System.
  • If we find that your clay tile liner is beyond these simple repair methods, we will recommend relining the chimney with the CeCure Sleeve Relining System. This method includes a liner sleeve made from stainless steel fabric that is held in place with two layers of the HeatShield cerfractory sealant. Your chimney will be safely and properly lined with a liner that will last for years.
