Chimney Safety Starts With Annual Inspections & Sweepings

Here at Ashbusters Chimney Service, the safety and comfort of our customers is our number one priority on every job. We perform annual chimney sweepings and inspections and can make sure your system is in good shape and ready to keep you and your family warmer on the next brisk evening – without unnecessary fire or carbon monoxide risk.

Before we start any repair or maintenance services, we begin with a thorough inspection. During an inspection, we check everything –  from the chimney cap and crown down to the flue liner, the damper, and the smoke chamber – and make sure every component of your system is working the way it was designed to. We also perform real estate inspections, which can help alert you to the true condition of the chimney system before you buy or sell your home. To learn more about the importance of inspections and how they can help protect you and your family, reach out to us!

When it comes time to clean your chimney, which we hope you remember to schedule on a regular basis, our team employs a meticulous approach to ensure the complete and efficient removal of creosote buildup, debris, and any other potential blockages. Our certified technicians utilize special rods and brushes, along with advanced vacuum systems that reach every nook and cranny of your chimney – all without leaving behind a mess in your home.

By providing thorough inspections at the beginning and end of our work, we are able to guarantee not only a clean chimney, but one that is safer for use. We believe in transparency and open communication with our customers, which is why we will always take the time to discuss our findings with you and make appropriate suggestions on any area that may require additional attention or repairs.

Ashbusters, what a great company to work with. We had a chimney project we were really worried over. Shon, Bryson, and Timmy showed up promptly and knocked it out in one day. It looks awesome. And these guys, what a pleasure to have such professional tradesman do a great job just doing what they do every day. We highly recommend Ashbusters and request these 3 guys. You won’t be sorry.

How About Gas Appliances – Do They Need Regular Inspections & Cleanings Too?

Yes! In fact regular inspections and cleanings apply to all fireplaces, stoves, gas logs, and inserts regardless of their age, fuel source, or frequency of use. So what do we check for during a gas fireplace inspection? Our checklist includes the following:

  • Exterior: We’ll be sure to look for any cracks in the glass or gaps in the framework – even a faulty gasket seal can pose huge safety risks by allowing heat to escape or a potential gas leak. If the glass is dirty, we use an ammonia-free glass cleaner to clear any dirt, dust, or residue, leaving you with a spotless view of your fireplace.
  • Gas Logs: Because gas logs are typically made of ceramic, they can withstand very high temperatures without changing their appearance. However, over time, you may still notice fading or deterioration. Damaged logs will not only affect your flame patterns, but the efficiency of your gas fireplace as well.
  • Ignition System Burner: Did you know spiders are attracted to natural gas? It’s true – and it’s also why it is very common for them to build webs and nests within all of the tiny holes of the burner. One cobweb could be the reason as to why your fireplace doesn’t ignite at the push of a button. We will ensure your fireplace is ready to go all season long.
  • Pilot Light: A pilot light that is weak or one that continues going out usually indicates an issue with either the ignition system or the thermocouple. It’s hard to know until we get our eyes in there.
  • Inspect Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Having a carbon monoxide detector is extremely important when you have a gas fireplace, insert, or freestanding gas stove in your home. Make sure to regularly change the batteries and test that it is working properly.
  • Check the Ventilation: Whether it is a chimney or other type of vent, you want to make sure it is clear of any and all obstructions or debris. This helps prevent the buildup of harmful gases, like carbon monoxide and smoke, from entering your home. Let us help keep your family safer.

When it comes to diagnosing and repairing gas fireplaces, it’s best you leave the unknowns to someone who is aware of the intricacies of these systems. Attempting to troubleshoot or repair these issues without proper knowledge can pose huge safety risks and may even lead to further, more expensive damage.

When in doubt, call Ashbusters Chimney Service.
